apexart NYC Exhibition Proposals 2027–28
apexart is accepting proposals for its NYC Open Call from 1–31 October 2026. Five selected proposals will become part of its 2027–28 exhibition season at its New York space. Each exhibition receives a $10,000 budget, including the curator/organizer honorarium, alongside production and logistical support from apexart.
Eligibility
The opportunity is open to artists, curators, writers and other creative individuals worldwide, regardless of background or previous curatorial experience. Individuals and curatorial teams may apply, and there are no application or participation fees.
Applicants may submit one proposal. Previous winners of the NYC Open Call are not eligible to apply again to the NYC call.
Proposal requirements
Proposals must describe a focused, idea-driven, original group exhibition featuring at least three artists working independently of one another. If the curator/organizer includes their own work, the exhibition must feature at least four artists, including the curator.
Submissions must be in English and must not exceed 500 words. The proposal must remain anonymous and contain no biographical information, CVs, links, images or submitter names.
Applicants must also provide a separate list of potential artists. This list is not shown to the jury, does not count towards the 500-word limit and may change if the proposal is selected.
Funding and support
The $10,000 budget covers the exhibition and related public programming:
Up to $8,000 covers expenses such as curator travel, artwork shipping, artist and public programme participant honorariums, equipment and installation.
A $2,000 curator/organizer honorarium covers coordinating the project and writing the exhibition brochure essay. This is included within the total budget and is paid after the exhibition closes and all expenses have been paid.
apexart also covers approved insurance, advertising, publicity, NYC exhibition documentation, exhibition brochure design, printing and mailing, and the local opening reception. Its team handles most exhibition logistics, including loan agreements and shipping, and works closely with selected curators/organizers to realise their exhibitions.
