Cahiers d’art 100 years. Through the collections of the Benaki Museum

Benaki Museum, Athens
14 October 2026 – 24 January 2027

Curators:  Polina Kosmadaki (IKT Member) & Vassiliki Daniil

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the publication of Cahiers d’Art (1926), the Benaki Museum participates in the international anniversary tribute coordinated by the Cahiers d’Art publishing house, in collaboration with curator Daniel Birnbaum, which includes exhibitions, publications and various events in different parts of the world.

The exhibition focuses on the global, multitemporal and intercultural character of Cahiers d’Art, presenting for the first time on this scale objects from the heterogeneous collections of the Benaki Museum in direct relation to their reproduction, circulation and interpretation in the pages of the magazine.

The exhibition highlights the essential historical and conceptual affinity between Christian Zervos’s publishing vision and Antonis Benakis’s collecting philosophy.

The presentation of the carefully selected objects — some of which will be shown to the public for the first time — will take place in a space where the pages of the magazine will simultaneously come to life through an immersive video installation by Natalia Papadopoulou.

The Benaki Museum participates in the anniversary programme of Cahiers d’Art for the celebration of the house’s centenary, alongside exhibitions at major international museums, including the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice, MDAM - Collection Zervos in Vézelay, LUMA Arles, the Musée national Picasso-Paris, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid.
