Human-Technology Interaction

We’re pleased to share that IKT member Natalia Fuchs has authored Chapter 15 – Creative Synergies: The Interplay of Art, Science, and Technology in Contemporary Culture in the newly published volume Human-Technology Interaction: Interdisciplinary Approaches and Perspectives (Springer), edited by Elena Malakhatka and Mikael Wiberg. This important academic collection explores the rapidly evolving relationships between humans and technology, touching on everything from AI integration and user experience design to the social impact of emerging tools.
Chapter 15 investigates the dynamic intersections among art, science, society, and technology, emphasizing their collective influence on human civilization and contemporary cultural developments. Art is presented not only as a form of creativity and expression but also as a crucial mode of engaging with, and reflecting on, technological advances and their societal implications. The chapter examines how integrating artistic perspectives into scientific research and technological innovation can lead to more comprehensive and human-centred solutions to contemporary challenges. It addresses the ethical considerations of rapid technological advancements and the role of art in highlighting these issues. Additionally, the chapter discusses the historical context of art and technology’s intertwined evolution and their impact on societal values and communication. It delves into various forms of digital artistic expressions, emphasizing the transformative effects of digital tools on creativity. Finally, the chapter forecasts future directions where emerging technologies could further blur the distinctions between digital and physical realities, enhancing both the creation and experience of art.
