It offers deep engagement with materials, communities, and nature in a space for artistic inquiry, interdisciplinary dialogue, and bold experimentation. PART hosts and supports up to six international residents at any given time and is a programme by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Housing, Arts, Culture, Media and Sport (BMWKMS).

PART x Praterateliers
The studios in Vienna’s Prater look back on a long history. Originally built for the World’s Fair of 1873 as the Pavillons des Amateurs , the north and south pavilions – along with the rotunda, an art hall, and around two hundred further pavilions – were used to present contemporary and historical works. After the World’s Fair ended, the buildings were repurposed into sculpture studios and, in continuous use from 1876, have played a productive part of Austria’s art scene ever since.
Extensively refurbished to meet modern ecological standards between 2023 and 2025 with funding from the EU Recovery and Resilience Facility and the Austrian Federal Government, the site currently houses 13 studios for local artists and six international residence studios, a multifunctional room, The Hall and the Bar des Amateurs – spaces for production, presentation and exchange.
Founded in 2025 and commissioned by the Federal Ministry for Housing, Arts, Culture, Media and Sport, PART International Art Residency Austria is conceived as a new residence programme for artistic research, interdisciplinary discourse and transnational cooperation, located in the south pavilion. Artists, curators, and theorists from around the world are invited to deepen their engagement with the social, political and ecological questions of our time. To be PART of means to open up and get involved – with others, with contexts, with oneself.
Amidst the unique alluvial forest landscape, a setting has emerged that supports artistic and curatorial processes, fosters spaces conducive to creativity, and opens up new perspectives. For those participating in the residency, PART offers time, infrastructure, networks and curatorial support. Within this supportive, inclusive, and safe environment, ideas and practices can be critically explored and further developed. In addition, The Hall serves as a flexible venue for exhibitions, performances, workshops and collaborative formats – a public venue that, during closed times, becomes a protected space for experimentation and new forms of exchange.
The work of PART reflects the interplay between diverse disciplines and a commitment to experimental approaches. Be PART of it!
