Artists: Yana Bachynska, Edlyn Castellanos, Atom Cianfarani & Maya Suess, Diana Derii, Abdulnasser Gharem, Harald Hund & Paul Horn, Zoya Laktionova, Yuyan Wang.

Curators: Yana Bachynska and the Videocity-Team.

This touring programme of screenings is organised by Yana Bachynska. He writes:

“My intention is to present Videocity comprehensively in Ukraine, shedding light on its approach. I aim to showcase works that resonate with me personally. Videocity is mostly promoting video works in public spaces. I have selected videos from the "Utopia Today" cycle that are suitable for indoor presentations.”

Undertaking a brief Ukrainian tour, this video art programme introduces the Videocity initiative, dedicated to the research and dissemination of video art. Founded in Basel in 2013 by Dr Andrea Domesle (IKT Member) and 2021 in St. Pölten together with Dr Walter Seidl (IKT Member), Videocity has evolved into an international network of curators and artists with a predominantly young team, whose practices revolve around socially engaged themes and interventions of video within urban spaces. During Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the initiative showcased solidarity with Ukrainian artists, further strengthening its collaboration with them and showing their works in Austria, UK, Germany and Switzerland.

During this screening tour in Ukraine in 2024, works by Ukrainian and international artists will be presented, offering a comprehensive view of Videocity's work and its diverse artistic collaborations.

Videocity projects are organized by two registered non-profit associations: zollfrei, since 2011 based in Basel, Switzerland, and Danube Trackback, since 2021 based in Lower Austria. Both associaitons have received support to collaborate with Ukraine artists: Yana Bachynska was awarded a three-month scholarship in 2023 by the Federal Ministry Republic of Austria, Arts, Culture, Civil Service and Sport. Yana was also part of a cross-border digital exchange between Ukrainian artists and the Videocity team initiated by Artlink and supported by Pro Helvetia.

Promoting Ukrainian video artists!

After the start of the war in Ukraine in spring 2022, the Videocity team was corresponding with Ukrainian artists. From our exchange, we learned that we can help by giving their works a presence in the art world. So, we showed Ukrainian video art in Basel and Bern, followed by exhibitions in other towns. You are invited to take over this touring.
