Visiting Curators Vienna 2026

Verein K is pleased to announce the call for applications for the residency program Visiting Curators Vienna 2026.

For its eighth edition, four international mid-career curators will be selected based on the quality of their previous work and the strength and relevance of the exhibition project(s) they submit.

The residency
Selected curators will spend ten days in Vienna (November 16–25, 2026) engaging directly with artists, institutions, independent spaces, and cultural practitioners.

The program offers:

  • Tailored introductions to artists, curators, gallerists, and institutions

  • Assistance in arranging meetings and visits according to your interests, including

  • Studio visits 

  • Meetings with independent art spaces and collections

  • Guided visits to selected exhibitions

  • Strategic support in developing long-term collaborations

Our aim is to foster meaningful international connections and create sustainable opportunities for artists based in Austria.

Travel and accommodation costs, as well as per diems, will be covered by Verein K.

Who should apply
We welcome curators who:

  • Have realized exhibitions in museums and/or other professional art institutions

  • Are planning one or more exhibitions within the next two years outside Austria that includes one or more artists based in Austria

  • Are interested in expanding their international network and developing lasting collaborations

Selection will take into account gender balance and diversity. There is no thematic restriction.
The working language of the program is English.

What to include in your application
Please submit a single PDF containing:

  • Your CV

  • A portfolio of relevant curatorial projects

  • A description of one or more planned exhibitions in which Austrian artists could play a significant role

  • A short outline of your curatorial interests (media, approaches, research focus, etc.)

  • The names of artists, curators, or institutions in Vienna you would particularly like to meet during your visit

Commitment
As strengthening the international visibility of artists based in Austria is a core objective of the program, participants are expected to keep Verein K informed about the development and realization of their proposed projects. If any changes affect the feasibility of the proposal, Verein K must be notified promptly.
