CCA Islands Travel Scholarship 2026 – 2027
CCA Islands offers CCA Travel Scholarship for emerging artists, curators, architects, designers and those who aim to be a professional in various areas of contemporary art and culture, pursuing their research and creative activities in Japan.
The scholarship offers research expenses of JPY 200’000 and covers one return transportation fare (only to/from Japan) according to CCA Islands terms and conditions (In the case of residing in Japan, transportation expenses for one round trip between the two locations in Japan is provided). Preference will be given to applicants under 35 years of age.
The recipients are expected to stay in Japan, and the minimum length of stay is 4 weeks and 8 weeks at the maximum between September 1st, 2026 and March 31, 2027. In the end of their stay, the recipients are required to report the result of their research.
Application requirements
Curator: Professional experience in contemporary art, or a degree in art/art history.
Architect/Designer: Professional experience running a private office or engaged in equivalent activities.
Artist: No specific requirements.
All applicants: Up to 35 years of age.
Application Materials
Please submit the following documents/files online. Read the submission requirements for each item carefully and prepare materials accordingly. Applications that do not follow the instructions will be excluded from consideration.

Research proposal (max. 1000 words).
Provisional research schedule.
The budget plan except for airfare to/from Japan. (In the case of residing in Japan, please exclude transportation expenses for one round trip between the two locations in Japan).

Curators/Historians/Researchers
Cover letter summarising your recent professional work, primarily exhibitions, publications, and art projects (max. 500 words).
Artist/Designer/Architects
Documentation of your work: minimum 5 works, maximum 10 works
Include captions/details for each work: title, year, medium/materials, and a short description/project statement.
Please do not submit more than 10 images.
For time-based media (film/video/sound), please submit no more than 5 minutes total across all files (not 5 minutes per file).
Submission Requirements for Artist/Designer/Architects
Number of works: minimum 5, maximum 10
File limit: up to 10 files total
Accepted formats: PDF, video, and audio files only
PDF format: each work must be summarised on one A4 page
Required information for each work: Title, Year, Medium, Description
Total file size: maximum 1 GB for all files combined (please compress files, e.g., MP4, to stay within this limit). Submissions exceeding 1 GB will not be accepted.
Time limit (media): the combined duration of all video and audio files must be within 5 minutes
Not accepted: YouTube links or any external links. Please upload files directly.
Deadline: April 24, 2026
Result announcement: Around June 2026.
